We Da South is a cultural experience celebrating the history, work, and enduring culture of Black Miami and the American South. Rooted in the richness of our communities, this exhibition was created to showcase the beauty, complexity, and influence of Black Miami through the arts. It is a space to honor our culture, preserve our stories, and bring our communities together through creative expression.

Black culture in Miami is vast, vibrant, and deeply rooted. Our history is woven into the neighborhoods we built, the traditions we carry, the art we create, and the generations who came before us. Despite decades of displacement, erasure, and attempts to diminish our presence, we are still here. We remain present in our stories, our creativity, our resilience, and our commitment to honoring the legacies that made us who we are.

Launching We Da South during Art Basel Miami is an intentional invitation to bring this history and culture into a broader conversation. As visitors from across the world gather in Miami to experience art, we create an opportunity for them to encounter the stories, people, and cultural contributions that have shaped Black Miami. Through photography, visual art, film, and other creative mediums, the exhibition places our communities at the center of the narrative, with photography serving as a focal point for documenting our people, preserving our history, and capturing the beauty of our lived experiences.

Our vision for We Da South extends beyond a single exhibition. We see it growing into a lasting platform for culture, creativity, celebration, and community—a space where stories are preserved, artists are recognized, connections are formed, and future generations can see themselves reflected in the work.

They say it takes a village. We Da South is that village. It is a bridge between generations, a platform for our voices, and a footprint that ensures our stories and communities remain visible, valued, and remembered.
